Why Your Podcast Pays You $4 An Hour (And Five Tools To Fix It)

Most podcasters think their money problem will get solved by more downloads, a bigger sponsor, or finally going viral. I used to think that too, until I sat down with a client who runs a towing business and found out he was making $4 an hour. Not $15. $4. That conversation is the reason I gave the keynote you're about to hear, recorded live as the title sponsor at Empowered Podcasting 3 in Charlotte. I'm Ralph Estep Jr., a licensed public accountant, and for 30 years I've helped small business owners and content creators figure out where their money is actually going. Spoiler: it's usually not where they think. Takeaways: - Most podcasters are chasing income they don't have while leaking income they already possess. - Understanding your hidden hourly rate can reveal the true cost of your podcasting efforts. - Give every dollar a job; this mindset shift can help you manage your finances better. - Tracking your income and expenses for 30 days can open your eyes to where your money really goes. - Set aside 30% of your income the moment it arrives to avoid tax surprises later. - Start building a financial buffer, even a small one like $1,000, to give you more freedom in decision-making. I've also got a daily live show, Becoming Financially Confident, with my co-host Juliet, airing at 11:30 AM Eastern.
