Episode 058:
You always ask me like, oh, how are you a good conversationalist? Well, I think it's because I'm genuinely interested in people's stories and how they got to be where they are, what their family was like growing up.
And, you know, most people don't realize that they had an unusual upbringing until they compare it to someone else's.
So I love to see that kind of realization hit people when I ask them questions.
And I love it when they learn that not everybody's family operates the same way.
And you can tell what stories are important to people based on how passionately they tell them, right?
What's been really fun for me is that I've loved you since you were 18 years old.
What did you learn about me? And what do you think I learned about you when we intentionally started retelling our stories?
Oh, I definitely learned that we had different understandings of a lot of our stories.
That doesn't mean that I'm a liar, but I have a more emotional response to experiences.
But I think something you've learned from me is that that doesn't always matter.
You can have an exact record of the facts and you have an amazing memory and you remember little details about things that I have long ago forgotten, and that is both good and bad.
