In this special Sydney-recorded episode of The Buy-In, Gareth Croy is joined by Chris Wisbey, General Manager of Scene Finance, to talk about the role lending plays as property investment becomes more…
Gareth CroyHostBut you with your background, you've seen changes, many changes over not just the lending empires and infrastructure, but also through financial planning and the accountancy side.
When you're sitting down, or I guess when you're sitting down with somebody, uh, for the first time- What's the angle of attack? What are we looking, what are you looking for in that person?

And whilst there's some themes that we see, which is how am I actually going to have the lifestyle I want in retirement or, um, financial freedom before 60, so there's some themes around those things.

I, you know, how, how, Gareth, can you make me wealthier? Um, ultimately, what I'm interested in is, well, why do you wanna be wealthier?

How do you see it play out? Paint me a picture as to what your lifestyle looks like.

Is it, you know, being wealthier means that I have more time, I have more time to spend with my grandchildren, I have more time to spend with my family, I have more time to do the hobbies and sports and things that I love.

Maybe it's time to contribute to not-for-profits and, and some other social purpose.

Um, so it's the digging into that that actually is, is more what I'm understanding or what I'm wanting to know.
So when, when you're sitting down with someone for the very first time, how much research has gone into that person before you actually put your mark one eyeballs onto them, and then ask the, the most ob- basic of humanly observation questions-
... to get under their skin to find out what it is that they want to actually accomplish?

Invariably, people are not preloaded with being able to explain and articulate exactly what they want out of life.

But in reality, so there's often a lot of questions to peel back the, the layers to then get to some of the more deep and meaningful answers that then tell me why we're gonna do something.

And if I don't have that connection with why it's important to you, then I don't really understand what the motivation is.

And you're probably un- unlikely to be successful, 'cause you won't stick at it unless it means something personal to you.
