As summer begins to wind down, it's easy to feel the pressure to squeeze in one more trip, one more adventure, or one more item on your bucket list. But what if the most meaningful moments of your…
This is not your summer adventures that you created back in June.
I'm talking about things that are gonna be really, really good for your heart and provide you just this really great moment of clarity, because it can be so hard to stay present in a season that feels like it is ending as the next one is glaring so brightly at you from all directions, right? You can go to any store right now or if you still watch a real cable television with televi- with commercials, right? You're seeing all the back to school promos and you're like, "I'm doing my best.
I'm trying to stay right here where I am," but the world around me is screaming, "Move to the next thing." And so this is our invitation right now to stay here in this moment, stay in this season while we have it, because that's all we got, right? And make the most of it.
And so one question that I want you to think about, and this is really the direction of the whole episode, so really spend some time thinking about this and cultivating the answer in your heart to figure out what is my answer as you focus on the summer, as you think about what's left of it, right? Of course, I'm in the southeast.
I'm in Georgia, so our school semester starts the very first week of August.
I know for my friends in other parts of the country, we have different schedules.
And so if you have more weeks left, this still works for you too, because I want you to think about whatever time you have left in your summer, what would make this summer feel like a success? When you think about the summer recap, your summer reflection, when you're Thinking about, okay, like these were good moments, these were sweet moments, right? These are the things I'm gonna take with me.
What will allow you to think, "Man, that was a really good summer"? What comes to mind? What would allow you to feel like this summer was a really good success? Would it be having more days spent outside and just allowing yourself and your family to make the most of the simple things? Or maybe it would be reading some more books.
Maybe it would be establishing some more order in your home.
Maybe it would be finishing a project that's been on your to-do list, or going and taking that last-minute trip, or just having that spontaneous day adventure.
Think through you, yourself, who you are, and establish what would make this summer feel like a success.
Okay, when I think about a successful summer, it would be easy to say, "Okay, like I would love all the laundry done and all of my house reset so that I can start the next season of crazy in a really good place that I feel like I can maintain." But more than that, if I really dig deep within my heart, what would be a successful summer to me would be present with my boys and being not frustrated and not wanting to rush moments, and just being still in them and experiencing their laughter and their smile and their joy, and being fully there in that moment.
And so think about that as we move through this episode.
I do have five things for you, of course, five things to do before summer ends that have nothing to do with your bucket list.
