After a busy season on the home front, we are sitting down to share a few personal updates. We are nearing completion on our debt-free DIY home addition, and we have been harvesting and preserving…
welcome to the podcast everybody i'm ben this is meg uh this is a little bit different of an episode
yeah we're a little fried
we're a little fried it has been a very very busy month and a half
yeah
um it has been a struggle to just do the content that we have produced
yeah
um
And keep everybody fed.
Keep everybody fed and
clothed and garden watered and produce harvested.
It's a very busy time of year for us.
And we have been in the mad dash to finish our house.
So, I guess that's where we're starting.
Okay.
We're going to talk about current events.
Yeah.
Personal current events.
Yeah.
Yeah, so...
Gosh, I don't even remember.
It was like six weeks ago when we recorded our last podcast.
So it's been a long time.
Yeah.
In that six weeks, we have gotten into our house.
Yes.
We've actually, we finished the addition, the interior part.
Mm-hmm.
Got the green light from the inspector.
Right.
Basically, we just have to do our final.
Yes.
And I have to add a leech line to my septic, and that's the only holdup.
We're waiting on moolah for that.
Right.
Get that done.
But other than that, we're done.
That's it, yeah.
We're ready to get our CO.
I told the inspector when he was here, he was like, yeah, you basically have the green light.
Finish the thing.
Yeah.
He was like...
All you have to do is just have this, that, and...
We didn't even have to have interior doors.
Yeah, you don't have to have it finished,
per se.
We just need this and this.
And I was like, okay, as soon as I cut this hole between buildings, my boys are moving into this room.
He goes... is fine.
Yeah.
This is an addition.
We get it.
People move in all the time.
People move in all the
time before you get your CO.
He goes, we just need to check the boxes.
Right.
Smoke alarms.
Yeah.
They've already inspected everything else.
So they know the building's fine.
Yeah.
They just have to come in and Really, all he said is he needs a termite certification, so we have to get termite sprayed.
Right.
Whether we have them or not, we just have to have a piece of paper saying that we did that.
Some
kind of something.
And then
the septic.
Right.
And then it's done.
It's counties out of our hair.
We're done.
Kaput.
Right.
Jalapeno.
Yeah.
Like I said, that'll be a little bit...
It will,
yeah.
As far as the exterior of the house, we don't even have to have siding on.
No.
That wasn't a...
It's a cosmetic.
Yeah.
And they don't care.
Right.
They just care about the stuff that the bank cares about.
Yes.
Even though we are doing this debt-free.
We own it.
It's ours.
There's
no bank involved.
Everything that the county worries about is to support...
the further financial struggles of a
bank.
Yeah.
That's
all they care about.
They just want the check boxes to be checked.
And that way, if a bank is ever involved, a bank can look at the sheet and go, yep, all the boxes are checked.
Good
to
go.
Yeah.
Had an interesting conversation with our inspector about the system and the flaws of the system and why the system is the way the system is.
Exactly.
It
was a good conversation.
I like our building
inspectors.
It's a small county and really chill, just country boys.
And they've all been really cool.
And girl, there's one girl.
They've all been really, really cool.
Yeah.
Everybody's normal.
They're human.
Yeah, they are.
Everybody's,
you know, sure they have to check the boxes too, but you can still have a human conversation with them.
Yes.
And it's very refreshing.
Yeah, it's been really nice.
They're not your normal government zombies.
Yes.
Yeah.
I shouldn't throw shade.
No.
I shouldn't throw shade, but there's a lot of people that you just deal with, and it's like, man, is this a real person? Yeah.
Like, all they care about is checking the box, and that's not so with our county inspectors.
Yeah.
So it's been good.
