The company owned a $2.7 million house in Austin along the Colorado River, three bed, two bath, 3,600 square feet rent for 8,500 bucks a month.
That was until last week because it was collecting a residential homestead exemption and benefited from the 10% homestead cap for five years from 2021 to 2026.
A homestead exemption, the tax break designed for the primary residence of an individual Texas homeowner, not a vacation rental LLC.
And when I flagged that property to Travis County Appraisal District last week, their chief strategy officer told me that it appears that an error was made by their processing vendor and the account will be updated immediately.
