Alaric made his choice.
Kalista pleaded for her life and offered the name of the true vampire behind all of this, Valen Silmaris.
That name is now known to us all.
But Alaric did not stay his hand.
She is gone.
I will not pretend I felt nothing in that moment.
Back home in Ashai, we have creatures not unlike these vampires, the Yaksha, ancient and dangerous.
And yet she spoke as though she had no choice in what she had become, forced into Valen's service.
Whether that is truth or manipulation, I cannot say with certainty.
I am still learning the nature of these creatures and this land.
What I do know is this: it is a shame.
Whatever she was before, Valen made her into what she became.
That person deserved better.
We did not linger long.
Once the Adventurers Guild and the town guard arrived, we turned our attention to the safety of the innocent lives still inside the manor.
That, at least, we were able to secure.
If tonight accomplished nothing else, it accomplished that.
We press forward.
