One thing that I think, since we're kind of on this topic, um, would be of interest to medical students, especially is that there are rumors out there that, um, you know, it could hurt them to apply to, um, multiple tracks, you know, uh, to apply for an I-6, but also be applying for general surgery positions.

You know, full disclosure, I'm a program director for a general surgery, uh, residency.

But what are your thoughts about that, you know, applying for multiple tracks as a medical student?

Dr. Yanagawa, I mean, I don't have any data to support what I'm going to say here.

that I serve on some groups on the general surgical residency program, too, where we look at applicants together and we screen them.

And although the discussion does come up from time to time that this person is applying for both an I-6 program as well to our own general surgical program, every program has a vested interest in getting the best product out there.

So if your top applicants are applying to an I-6 program, they will do just as well if they matched into your traditional general surgical program.

I'm not sure if there's any scientific publications to support what you and I are hypothesizing or what our position is, but I do feel, I hope that most program directors feel the same way.
