I think when the i6 paradigm was created, it was very heavily geared towards producing clinical surgeons.

And many programs did not provide an academic enrichment or a research period during that initial rollout.

But since the initial rollout of the i6 pathway, many programs now allow you to have two to three years in the lab as part of the i6 training too.

In the four, three pathways, Virtually all the programs provide you an opportunity for research in the lab for two to three years after clinical two slash clinical three.

And in the traditional five plus two or five plus three paradigm, the research opportunities are essentially linked to your general surgical program.
