It's Shane Gillis, who's a comedian, doing like a stand-up comedy monologue at the start of an episode of SNL.
I can't tell you how many times with random men at pubs or, you know, parties or just out in the world.
You know, when you're in an environment where you're having some drinks and you're chatting to people you don't know.
And... inevitably one of the early questions in those sorts of small talk conversations is people say what do you do and i i kind of hate saying comedian because it's weird but i mean maybe a lot of jobs have this you know when you say your job and then there's almost a scripted conversation that you know will happen Does that make sense? Like if you say, I'm a teacher, there's like these touch points that they're always going to hit in the conversation.
And then, you know, maybe they go, what year level do you teach? And you answer that.
There's like, what's another one for teacher? I don't know, I can't think of an example, but like there's stock questions, right? If you said to someone, I'm a hairdresser, maybe what would the stock question be for hairdresser? Maybe the stock question would be like, do you talk during the haircut or do you just cut the hair in silence? I feel like a lot of people would ask that.
I'm always just reluctant to say comedian because I can't be bothered having that stock scripted conversation.
I'd rather just be like, I'd rather we just go, all right, what's your favorite album ever? And then we have like an argument about why a certain band is better than a different band or something like that.
I don't want to do a conversation that I've done a hundred times about, you know, these are some of the stock things that when you say you're a comedian, people say, well, so do you just think you're funny? Like, have you always just thought you were funny? Like, so are you funny? They say that.
like, come on, all right, go, tell us a joke, tell us a joke, I fucking hate that one, and a really common one in the last few years, always men, is they go, oh yeah, like, do you like Shane Gillis, and I always have to be honest, and be like, to be honest, I haven't really watched any of his stand-up, really, like, So I don't really have an opinion of him.
