As Season Two comes to a close, Kyle looks ahead to the changing seasons and the growing anticipation of another steelhead season on the horizon. After spending the spring and summer chasing wild and…
And naturally, I want to talk about Somewhat the shift of trout season into steelhead season, but we're far from that.
You know, me and Pono in one of the episodes talked about our favorite times as we went through the calendar.
And we both talked about fall being, you know, the weather's just perfect.
Those cooler nights, campfire nights, cool mornings, sweatshirt weather, all the above.
shift in autumn the leaves changing all of the above leading into fall and then right into steelhead season so i kind of want to highlight this shift coming up as we're ending the end of august summertime starting to close out it's multi-layered we still get those longer nights but starting to cool down cooler evenings as we get into september here and then a little bit more rain coming in the fall and better stream conditions as we get into more of that prime fishing season and out of that That lull of summer.
Although I did get out on some water here in August, some cold water.
It was fantastic, high 50s, low 60s.
Some good top and bottom action, but it's really just this, once you hit July and August, it's just a countdown to September, to these cooler evenings, these cooler mornings in there for, you know, the lower water temps.
And I find, again, there's so many layers to this game when it comes to this time of year where I just enjoy being out there in general for the scenery itself.
Everything seems to quiet down again.
You get out of that craziness of summer, which is a nice shift.
So you're out of that busyness and then shifting into more of that calmer weather, that quieter weather that I think coincides with the fishing a little bit.
And there's a number of things in the way that my mind starts to shift.
I'm a teacher.
I've mentioned it a couple of times.
So I'm starting to shift out of this whole summer mode.
And there becomes a shift as well, where I'm really starting to go through my fishing gear, starting to prep for that shift out of the terrestrial dry fly season into more of a fall and then that winter zone.
So I go through all my gear and really shift in that element of it as well.
So there's this whole top to bottom refocus, realignment, and you're getting back into that kind of that spring mode, I guess, that early spring mode, right? So a couple of things that I start to prep for as I'm getting ready for this shift is I'm getting my gear out.
I actually did it the other day.
and I'm going to do it probably again.
But I go through and I really check, and it's my trout stuff and my steelhead stuff, which a lot of it is the same in terms of flies.
Some stuff's slightly adjusted colors, sizes, whatever it is.
