This is the first of our revived profile format episodes where we talk to a working professional in the language industry to give you a snapshot of what working as a professional linguist is like and as you may have heard we will be using these episodes to focus on different specialisms that you might want to work in as a translator Of course, it's important to say here that there is no one universal way of getting into or working in a particular area of the language industry, but hopefully it provides an insight and maybe even a bit of inspiration.
So this episode, we are continuing with the medical theme by hearing from Katie Datz about specialising in medical translation.
Just a quick note on the audio quality before I hand over to Katie.
Something strange seems to have happened to Nick's sound in the recording.
It wasn't obvious when we were having the conversation, but he seems to have been recorded at a quieter volume than Katie and myself.
So I have, through the magic of editing, made his sections a bit louder so that we're all talking at the same volume.
But that means that he isn't coming across with quite the same crispness as you might be used to.
So sorry about that.
