that's it
Which brings me on, actually, because we had an anonymous question recently on one of our social media accounts asking about the journeys into social work and the different routes.
So talking about you going straight from school into university is one route that you don't see very often.
No, you don't, no,
no.
There's traineeships which have come on since I did it.
They were secondments.
Right,
so what's a traineeship? Yeah, one at a time.
Whoa, one at a time.
Whoa, whoa.
Well,
I'll start with secondies first because it's probably more natural for me to go there first.
Okay,
right, go on then.
The local authority that I work in, and I was a secondment, they would offer places of funding, maybe two or three per year for the whole of social care.
You'd apply, go through an interview panel, an application process, an interview panel, and the local authority would then fund the degree through the Open University for you.
Do you
have to be already working in that local authority? Already employed, and a
permanent contract, and you have to have permission from your line manager to be able to be released to do the training because it involves study time.
yeah all sorts placement placements and the at the end of that you're meant well the organization i work in you're meant to be guaranteed a social work job at the end not necessarily where no
not even where you began necessarily where you're needed where you're
for the three-year program now what's happened since i qualified was the traineeships locally and i think that's that's not just in our organization they are everywhere
where i work as well really positive
and that's more and we've got it in the team i work in now so that is very similar interview application process and same through the open university generally where i work but i think i have heard of it in other organizations using other um universities too and And the student then has a job in that team at the end of it as a social worker.
