Stop paying your medical bills with after-tax dollars You’re already paying for deductibles, prescriptions and co-pays. With the right setup, your business could pay you back for them, tax-free. In…
Now, the problem that we see, and what we're talking about today, is high medical costs.
Those are deductible, and those are always deductible for you as an owner in your business.
We're talking about high medical costs outside of premiums, actual out-of-pocket medical costs.
So we already paid our premium, but now due to an unhealthy year, maybe a diagnosis that came, whatever it might be, this year we have high medical costs.
Maybe it's five thousand, ten thousand, twenty thousand, forty thousand dollars, whatever it might be.
And so a lot of people think, well, those of course are an itemized deduction on my personal tax return, right? So let's just use forty thousand dollars as a number, and let's say you had forty thousand dollars out of, out-of-pocket medical costs, again, over and above your premiums.
And so at the end of the year, you put all those documents in a place and give it to your accountant and say, "Here are our medical costs.
Here's our medical costs for the year." And you expected to get a forty thousand dollar deduction from that.
There's certain limitations, there's certain caps where you have to go over a certain amount, and any costs over that amount count, and your income comes into play, and there's so many different things that likely much of that forty thousand dollars you may not get any deduction for or very little deduction for it.
You have high out-of-pocket medical costs that most people think they get a personal deduction for that they end up not getting that deduction for.
So you end up actually using after-tax dollars for all of these medical costs, and so that's a missed tax opportunity.
And what we wanna talk about today is how do we turn that around? How do we get a deduction for that? Now, again, we're talking out-of-pocket medical costs over and above any kind of health insurance premiums you have.
Health insurance premiums are always gonna be deductible for you as a business owner.
After you've paid your premiums and then you still have medical costs, what does that look like? Option number one is take it as an itemized deduction.
The problem with option number one is that it's likely gonna be no deduction at all or very little.
So let's talk about option number two, and that's exactly what we're talking about today.
