It this episode of Sligo Community Voices, Val chats to Bridget, the manager of the Sligo Cancer Support Centre, about the charity and the services they offer, not only to cancer patients, but to…
For us now, starting in September, I suppose we roll out a suite of groups.
The first one that we'll be starting in October is called Empower.
Empower is a group specifically aimed at women post breast cancer or post gynae cancers because of the impact on hormones or hormone inhibitors on the female body.
There's a lot of side effects and there's a big impact.
So over eight weeks with one of our lovely facilitators, Gavrina or Brenda, hosts that.
We either do it online or face to face, but they cover all the symptoms.
And there's some wonderful specialised speakers as well that speak throughout that.
So that's a great course for women.
Our suite of courses is expanding in September.
We'll be back to our normal men's group, which meet twice a month, which is a fantastic group and has been running for a very long time.
Our choir is back on a Wednesday evening for all cancer patients.
It's really about connecting with people.
And, you know, singing is good for us.
Singing is good for us and it's good for the lungs and all the rest of it.
So that's a lovely group.
And it's hosted by Eileen, which is fabulous.
We are hosting our myeloma group.
for myeloma patients.
That's starting back in September.
A new group for us is our head and neck cancer.
So that's new for us.
So that's new for us.
The launch evening for that is the 17th of September.
