Missouri Governor’s Mansion Becomes Training Ground For Incarcerated Workers

The Department of Corrections has 56 apprenticeships currently.

And so a lot of these apprenticeships are in our Missouri vocational factories.

So anything from textiles to welding to manufacturing.

We also have an apprenticeship with our Puppies for Parole program.

So it's something that the department is really passionate about to help with, you know, on-the-job training and in-seat learning for the residents to be able to have this to transition out to get employment.

And so we have had a partnership with the Governor's Mansion for many, many years through many, many governors.

Our offender population are selected to go out there to work.

They help with events.

They help with cleaning.

They help with preparing food.

So they do an immense amount of different services.

And again, we've had that partnership for quite some time.

And so the mansion director had reached out about a year ago and was really interested in ensuring that these men at the governor's mansion were able to have also some sort of certificate or something to really solidify the work that they're doing out there.

And so because of the department's dedication to apprenticeships, we thought that would be a perfect fit for this.

And so we worked closely with Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development and developed an apprenticeship specifically for the men that work at the Governor's Mansion to really fit the skill sets that they're doing out there.
