Ancelotti names team - Popovic on Striking Options | 25/09/26

Yeah, it's a massive blow, a massive blow, because he didn't quite have the World Cup that he probably wanted, but was showing the signs that he was going to become a force for the Soccerers and join this cohort of players where you think in 10 years' time, Patrick Beach, Jordan Boss, Lucas Harrington, Nestor Irencunda, Christian Volpardo, Paul Ocon Enxler as well, that could become, you know...

Firstly, household names.

That's what the sport needs in this country.

They need people who are doing the business overseas to elevate the sport back in Australia.

But also great Socceroos, like 50-cap-plus Socceroos, get into the conversation.

Because when you think about it, the current crop – let's think about this today, Maestro.

Out of the current crop of Socceroos, who would you have in a best-ever 11 or a top – 10 or 15 Socceroos of all time.

I've got one that I've got in consideration.

Is

he actually in this squad? Yes.

Oh.

I think so.

Hang on.

Well, it takes out who I was suggesting it might be, which was Matty Ryan.

So, no. I've got Schwarzer ahead of him.

Yeah, that's fair enough.

That's fair enough.

Just.

Don't let Bozzy hear you say that.

And Bozzy readily says it.

I know.

I never went to a World Cup and it wasn't his fault.

Never went to a World Cup.

He was pretty close in 98.

If there was VAR, he would have been there.
