So the authors present a review, uh, of the pathogenesis, uh, of rheumatic mitral valve disease in, uh, in, in, in younger, uh, patients and present the implication for valve repair.
And this review underlines the importance of immune-mediated connective tissue damage in the development of juvenile rheumatic heart valve disease.
And they conclude that, uh, this, uh, disease actually should be considered a separate entity from the chronic or burnt-out valvulitis seen in older patients with rheumatic heart disease, and because this disease have distinctive morphological and echocardiographic features.
So this is definitely a, a must-read article, and I think it's important to make this distinction between rheumatic heart valve disease in young, very young people versus in older ones.
And because obviously the pathogenesis is different, and so maybe, um, the treatment, uh, should also be, uh, different.
