What does it mean to be truly cared for, not just during postpartum, but through every stage of life? In this episode of the Sacred Window Podcast, Christine Eck welcomes Giana Flocco-Quinn…
Christine Devlin EckHostYeah, I guess I want to start with, you have this commitment to bringing postpartum care to new families, but how are you starting to see that this care is so ultra relevant in the support of students?
Basically, when I first go into a home, one of my first questions is, when was the last time you showered, ate, drank and slept? And usually they have to think for a second about it.
And when they think about it, that's when I'm like, oh, it's already too much.
If you have to think that most likely you haven't done any of those basic care needs in a while.
So with all that, I like to explain it that as a postpartum doula, I'm your second brain.
And when he came home from the hospital, that was my first time that my husband and I were living together.
And there was a moment when it struck me of, I haven't brushed my hair in well over a week.
And we brought this little tiny baby home within a week of finding a home.
And as a doula now, I just think back to all the experiences I had and how simple they were, like brushing my hair, brushing my teeth, drinking enough water.
And usually it's, I was waiting for you to get here so I could take a shower and not have to worry about those phantom cries or actual cries.
