A lyric can crack you open faster than a journal prompt. I start season two by setting a sacred space for the ones who have carried the family, the job, the leadership role, and everyone else’s needs, then I let the conversation get very real about what healing actually looks like when you stop pretending you are fine.
Music is the thread, and "Pink" (Alecia Beth Moore), is the mirror. I share why her songs have felt like my nervous system finally got a voice, then I read pieces of “Family Portrait” and talk about what it brings up for anyone who grew up around conflict, alcohol, walking on eggshells, or a home that looked “normal” from the outside. We also turn toward generational pain and the Vietnam legacy, including the way trauma can follow veterans home, and why we have to do a better job supporting them. I read from “I Have Seen the Rain” and sit with the weight and the love inside those words.
To bring it back into your hands, I share a grounded inner child practice inspired by “Conversations With My 13-Year-Old Self,” plus guidance on “music hygiene” for nervous system regulation: feel what you feel, but don’t let your playlist trap you there. If you’re craving community and a fresh start, I also share details about the Unbound retreat in Bend, Oregon (April 30 to May 2, 2027). Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs it, and please leave a review so more hearts can find their way back home.
