hey let's focus on you today So, like you said, 2017, 2021, you were on your own back then.
There was no community.
It was kind of like trying to get people together, trying to find people to come together, which is well done on that, by the way, on the charity run, but also being able to pull people up to go and run that experience with you.
What have you seen change? What are the key things that you feel kind of stand out to you?
I think we've seen from the last five or six years, running's just got bigger.
As we know, it's a trend now.
I mean, you can't step out to the street in London anytime without a run club running past you every day of the week.
There are constant meetups.
It's become a brand thing, a commercial thing.
again you can say that some positive and negative but i think i see it as a positive it's if so many people are taking part in an active healthy activity that's only great whichever way you look at it yeah um whether any morning runs late night runs whatever i just think the whole health drive is has become a movement um i'm glad to be part of that and then there is diversity inclusion there are representation that then gets pulled into that as well and then you realize different age groups different backgrounds it's it's something for everyone different abilities not everyone has to be a pro a pb runner you could be running at the back of the group but you try harder and you then work your way up to the front over time My biggest learning curve personally, and it's a hand on, I put my hand up and say, we try not to judge.
And I used to see people running, you know, I thought, how does that person do 10K or 15K? I'm potentially could be fitter than them, but they've done so much more than me.
And I realized over time, it's like, you can never judge or think what someone's capable of.
Absolutely not.
And that was my own having to reflect on like, there is no getting rid of your ego.
i remember going for runs i think i should be running faster that person in front of me and then i realized well they might be doing a 30k long run i'm only doing a 5k today i don't know what they've done before and i don't know their life situation sure so massive learning cancer says respecting everybody who's out there for whatever level they're doing and only competing with myself yeah i used to like i've got to beat that person in front of you now i just want to beat my own Yeah, start with being yourself.
Exactly.
Be your best and then work your way up.
But I think for me, there's other changes that people have just jumped on the health, fitness, community drive, giving it more time and respect.
I've been involved in charity events.
I've got pulled in by other charities to do things for them, which I enjoy.
I just think it's a really positive focus at the moment on people getting healthy, doing fitness things, running, and all the goodness that can come out of it so community work charity work if there's something that can motivate and inspire other people to do things is
it can be a positive movement i think you've mentioned quite a few good things when it comes to how many people are out there today um different ages different skill sets different backgrounds it's all there you mentioned how you pretty much just need to work on yourself rather than just worry about what someone else is doing in terms of pace and time and everything good things there but there's also a lot of bad out there too when it comes to social media for example What's your take on the influences and the kind of point that they're trying to get out there? Because I'll be honest with you, it kind of makes you feel like you can do so much more in terms of, wow, I should be faster or I should be better or I should be doing more mileage, more majors or something like that.
So what's your take on that?
um yeah it's it's this funny space isn't it it's um i think whether you're into social media or not it's hard to avoid it um like my wife's not on it she's she's she got rid of her instagram with my encouragement but then she's like why are you still on it
and she doesn't use
