Remarks with Republicans (Mike Cox)

All right, to start us off, tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to get into county government.

Okay, my name is Mike Cox and I am 74 years old.

I grew up in McDonough County in Macomb for the most part.

I run a small business, electrical contracting business.

Macomb's been good to me, McDonough County's been good to me, so I was asked to run for the board and I thought I would do my part to give back.

whatever way I could.

A lot

of people, especially young voters, don't fully understand what a county board member does.

Can you explain your responsibilities and how the decisions you make affect residents?

Okay.

Yeah, so we as a board appoint a lot of positions, whether it be the hospital board, fire protection district board members.

We decide on how the taxes are going to be distributed, how they're going to be collected, how much we're going to collect, help run the court systems and make sure all the facilities are in place for that, and the McDonough County Sheriff's Department.
