Patrice WashingtonHostAnd today I wanna talk about how self-abandoning actually looks in real life in love.
I think many of us abandon ourselves, but we have learned to call it something else.
So we may call it being understanding when we keep explaining away behavior from people that hurts us.
We may call it being generous when we keep giving to the point of our own depletion.
We call it, oh, I'm just the responsible one when we start to take ownership of things that were never, ever ours to carry.
We may refer to it as being ambitious when we build a life that requires us to keep doing more and more and more and more, but never necessarily feeling better inside.
We call it being loyal when we stay longer than the expiration date, right? Knowing that we need to get out.
We call it being flexible when we're actually betraying our own governing decisions and boundaries.
So we keep saying, oh, I'm looking for clarity and all of that is rooted in faith.
I think that we have to talk about self-abandonment because it doesn't always look like somebody who doesn't love themselves.
Dr. Tama taught us years ago on this podcast that many women stay in relationships longer than they should because of overconfidence, not low self-esteem.
It doesn't always look like you're insecure or you're needy or you're desperate.
Sometimes self-abandonment actually looks incredibly polished, incredibly accomplished.
This is the person that everyone calls strong, the person that everyone comes to for advice.
And they know all the lingo because they have done years of therapy and listening to podcasts and reading all the books and they pray and they journal and they meditate and they can articulate exactly why everybody around them behaves the way they do.
