The Trauma Survivor Made Whole: What Inanna Brought Back From The Underworld

Well, friends, I do hope you ain't had too hard a time since the last we spoke.

I know I left you all, along with our leading lady, in a precarious position.

hung up cold and naked on a rusty hook at the bottom of a death-stinking cave.

Sorry to say it, but I don't reckon most of us could find much comfort in a place like that.

The fact is, it can't be helped.

We all gotta take our turn sooner or later.

As they say, the ways of the underworld are perfect.

Can't be questioned.

I don't make the rules.

But our story ain't over yet.

Although Inanna, queen of heaven and earth alike, hangs lifeless in the prison of her dark sister, Erish Kegel, she went into it knowing that so long as there was breath in her loyal companion, there was hope for her salvation.

Now, I ain't gonna lie to you.

When we left our friend Ninashiba, she was in a sorry state.

She'd lost the only friend she'd ever known, the one who'd seen her through thick and thin, and she weren't taking it too well.

Inanna had told her to go out and find help, so that's what she was going to do.

But she really couldn't tell you why.

She knew it weren't no use.

Once a body's lost in that grate below, they don't ever come back.

Once you go down there, that's where you're staying.

The sun scorched her skin like hot grease, and the nights were dark and cold.

That desert seemed like an endless place.

She brought provisions with her for the journey.

but she couldn't eat or drink none of them.

When she tried, her body retched and heaved, bringing up sour wet and bitter bile.

She prayed every night to be allowed to die.
