Anil and Shalini Cherian - Part 1 - 15-16 August 2026

Dr. Anil and Dr. Shalini, welcome to the program.

Thank you.

Thank you.

And also with us today, we have a special guest, Dr. Alan Gisbers.

He's a retired associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of Melbourne and longtime friend of Dr. Anil and Shalini.

Welcome to the program.

Thanks, Eric.

It's a real thrill to have Anil and Shalini with us in Melbourne because we We've followed their progress in India over many years.

My wife and I have followed their progress over many years.

We have an association with the Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore, where my wife and I went from 83 to 88.

Okay, so you've lived in India.

Yes.

Oh, yes, yes.

Our home was a place.

I mean, CMC Hospital and College is a medical school where medical students train.

It's in rural India.

And every year we mentor medical students who are exploring their desire to serve India and particularly to serve it in the name of Christ.

And tell us about meeting Anil.

Well, they were just medical students.

Every batch was about 60 medical students, and we would teach them medicine, but we'd also teach them about Christian spirituality and the scriptures and things like that, so as to encourage them to consider their medical course as a service of people in India or other places.

So you know them going all the way back to the 80s.

Yeah, when they were medical students.

And it's been an absolute delight to follow their progress because they have become very respected obstetricians in Shalini's case and a pediatrician in Anil's case.

and watching how they developed their theology of mission, medical mission particularly, has been a delight.

We meet under the auspices of the International Christian Medical and Dental Association, so we have regional and world congresses where we reflect on what it is to be God's people in the world.
