Well, I said I had all the latest on Aaron Donald, on whether he will be playing or not in Australia, and NFL insider Adam Schefter broke that news earlier today.
[graphics whooshing] Rams standout defensive tackle Aaron Donald will not travel to Australia for Thursday night's opener a- against the 49ers and will be inactive, per me and Rap Sheet Ian Rapoport.
The Rams want to give Donald more time to ramp up before making his much-anticipated return after two seasons of retirement.
And in this instance, I do agree with the Rams that this is the right move to make.
I think it makes perfect sense- For them to not have Aaron Donald fly to Australia, be on that long flight risk, you know, things tightening, swelling up on that long flight there and back.
And something that I'm gonna give J- Greg Jennings on Fox Sports 1 credit, 'cause he did say this first, and it's a take that I happen to agree with quite a bit, and it's that Aaron Donald signed later kind of on purpose because of the long flight to Australia wasn't necessarily something he was interested in doing.
Not that he's running from the grind, not that he was scared of the Niners, no. It's just 'cause for his body and where he is coming off of two years of not being in the NFL, despite keeping himself in great overall shape, but still not necessarily in NFL game shape, I think that that was something he weighed as not something that he believed would be the best for him to have an effective season and be impactful late in the season and in the playoffs, obviously.
So I do fully think that it is the right move for the Rams and Aaron Donald, considering when he signed.
Donald did practice in a limited capacity today, just because he's not gonna be playing Thursday, so you don't need to run him through a, a full practice.
And to me, the defensive game plan doesn't really change too much, 'cause again, Aaron Donald, a bit of a later addition.
And well, you obviously want Aaron Donald to have a great season start to finish, but you're not as concerned early in the season about him playing every snap or 90% of the, the defensive snaps per game.
And I do think against the Niners, while it would obviously help to have him out there, it's not necessarily a need here in week one, again, because you still got Cobie Turner and Puna Ford, Braden Fiske on that defensive line and are gonna be just fine here against the Niners.
Again, these teams know each other very, very well, so it's gonna take a lot on both sides of the ball to out-scheme the other coaching staff here.
Uh, and this isn't 'cause of an injury, it's due to injury, I guess, prevention, and I do fully stand by this move for the Rams.
