MUKTZAH 16 NOLAD PURPOSE PRESERVED

We had mentioned that shards that became broken on Shabbos Yom Tov are a problem of noylad and they can't be moved or handled or used.

And that applies to things that totally, totally break and have no resemblance to their original use.

Then they become muxa and besides from being muxa, they're also going to be noylad.

However, in general, if you have an item that started off Shabbos and now it broke, but it still is possible to use it in a similar way to how it was originally used, it does not become Muxah at all, and it's not Noilat either.

So if, let's say, somebody had a coffee mug or a glass that holds four ounces, and the whole top broke off, and you left with just a little bit, it could still contain just enough little bit for a shot glass or maybe even less, the bottom line is it still has some possibility purpose like its original use, and it does not become muxa.

The broken parts that fell off of it that now have zero use, those would become muxa and noilet.
