DIG IN: What being 'politically Black' meant then and now

Hello.

So, last week you mentioned, well, the term came up, politically black, in Sunil Gupta's story.

And I really want to dig into that.

It's such an interesting term.

It has such a history attached to it of...

the UK, activism, black and Asian communities.

So this is gonna feel maybe a little bit longer, a bit more in depth, because there's just so much to talk about.

But I just wanted to, I guess, just scratch the surface and talk about where we are now, because it's something that's also evolved in my time as well.

I mean, language, this is the thing about language, right? So it's always evolving and constantly changing and picking up.

you know, historical events and what's happening in society along the way, and then just dropping them as things change.

So, I mean, this is part of the reason why I hate talking about terminology in all my trainings and workshops around like gender and race, because it's just impossible to cover, you know, people just get, in my experience, just get stuck on the terminology, and it becomes a debate about what word is right, what word can we use, can't we use in What you're trying to do with these kinds of terminologies around race is talk about racial inequality, injustices, experiences of black people, Asian people, people of color.

And it just gets lost when you get stuck on terminology.

Absolutely.

But today we are going to get stuck on terminology.
