S2E3: Defining ‘rehabilitation’

This is Prison Cast, a show for people in prison and their loved ones.

I'm Erin Allen.

Today on the show, rehabilitation.

And joining me in hosting duties is Jermaine Brown.

What's going on, Erin?

What's up? So those voices we heard were from a visit we did early last year.

And Jermaine, I know you're all about rehabilitation.

What comes to mind for you when you heard those guys in that classroom there?

Well, what came to mind was the fact that everybody has different definitions of rehabilitation.

And it is a frustration when you're During time, especially under the truth and sentencing, where you get no type of relief no matter what you do, that can be very frustrating.

I went in, I rehabilitated myself, and I had that mindset at the start.

So sometimes we have to get over those frustrations and look at what rehabilitation means to me.

Because even though you can be in a situation where you don't get any type of recognition or good time for the good things you're doing, but down the line, it does become rewarding.

Hmm.

So it's rewarding for you whether or not the prison system rewards you.

Absolutely, because I had this idea of good for nothing.

And I had wrote a piece on it because I was doing so many good things, expecting the prison system or the court system to recognize that and to get some type of relief.

But now that I'm out, those things that I worked on rehabilitated myself.

Now I'm able to reap the rewards.

So I didn't have a good time then, but because of that rehabilitation, I'm having a good time now.

Hmm.
