Perkybits: Riding the Waves of Life
Sep 9, 2026 · 36 min · 12 segments
Perkybits introduces and interviews Danielle, founder of Fighting Under Forty. Danielle is a 30 year old breast cancer survivor of four years!
Right.
So now, obviously, that's part of your whole goal and starting the fighting under 40.
So tell us about that.
Yeah.
So, I mean, I'll tell you how it started actually to begin with.
Every January, I do a cute little like board for the year and I pick power words and I pick goals.
And for the past three years, like ever since my diagnosis and beating it, I've had like you know, get involved with a nonprofit on there.
And every year I would like try to like poke around one or two and it just like never felt called to one until the beginning of this year.
And I was actually in the middle of an interview and someone asked me why I became a teacher.
And I was explaining this story about how I heard a quote when I was younger and the quote is, be who you needed when you were younger.
And I became a teacher because I thought about 14 year old me who was a freshman in high school and lost a parent and I just wanted someone to look at me as a person right not just a student in their classroom like I had feelings I had a lot going on and I just wanted someone to be there for me I guess a little bit more and So I became a teacher.
And as they were asking me this, it clicked in my brain.
And I was like, oh my God, be who you needed when you were younger.
Who did this current version of me need when she was younger? I needed someone to tell me to go get checked and to go do the screening and all of these different things.
And so I decided to create Fighting Under 40 to help women under 40 know what they need to know and what they wouldn't otherwise know.
Wow.
That's wow.
That's like, I just got chills.
Like, that's crazy.
That's such a like cool turn of events or, you know, how it came full circle.
That's amazing.
So when did you start this and like, what are you working towards with it?
Yeah, so I came up with the idea in January.
I want to say, actually, maybe the last week of December was when that interview was.
And then I think two days later, I got the LLC for it.
Right.
