A short bite from our conversation with MIT engineer and author Ted Yang: why neural networks aren't new, the one thing AI still can't optimize (hint: humans are in the loop), and how over-optimizing…

So what can we actually optimize in our lives in the current stage of available technology then?
I mean, listen, I think that we talked about what's difficult to optimizing scheduling, right? And then specifically, I meant here trying to schedule when you've got to travel and you do events and these kinds of things.
I use AI to help my scheduling, but until everyone has something completely working for them all the time, thinking about it, getting your head together, then these things are just going to happen because people get late, people get delays, people get sick, all these kinds of things happen, and then the ripple effect is so huge.
I spend way too much time sorting out and trying to figure out exactly the complicated nature of getting travel and these kinds of things working right.

Oh, but I keep seeing like lots of different solutions, but it's still for me the best way to put my schedule in order.

It's like the paper and the pen because I need to understand, okay, I'm going to be there on Friday.

Do I want to sacrifice sleep or I would like to get in early in the morning? Like all those things.
