Holly WaymentHostWhen I give nutrition advice, I always kind of talk about it's important to achieve balance.
So I always try to like not have a idea of restriction, like take away like sodas, take away.
You probably have less sodas, but I try to frame it more like you just want more balanced nutrition.
And so I kind of say, like, you can't always have, you know, one type of food group.
And so the MyPlate actually is a perfect visualization of kind of like a balanced plate.
I think promoting balance over restricting, like don't have that, don't have that, I think is a better message for teenagers.
demonizing desserts can also be concerning because yes i understand like sweets and like carbohydrates and things like that if you're eating too much of it has a lot of concerns but i think then some people end up feeling guilty for any time they have a treat and i was like it's okay everyone has a treat sometimes again you just want to have not that that shouldn't be all day every day you're having a treat you can have you have to have other food groups too with that and so again really having that balance instead of being like don't have this don't have that A lot of it, too.
I do have had teenagers that kind of fill up on sodas and juices and then don't have anything else.
I was like, you should have other things besides just soda because, yes, it can fill you up.
It's hard because we live in a sunny area, so probably more than other people.
Yes, why is that? I think it's just a lot of teenagers are busy and they forget.
