Um, uh, I always recommended the CDC up until the current administration has updated the norms and guidelines and have provided inaccurate information on food maps.
Michelle DawsonHOST
43:03
And the MyPlate has .org or whatever .gov has changed.
Michelle DawsonHOST
43:09
So I rely on what the solid science tells me.
Michelle DawsonHOST
43:13
And so HealthyChildren.org has great guidelines on that.

Now, if Tufts University School of Nutrition weren't one of the preeminent schools of nutrition in the world, and Mozaffarian one of the preeminent nutrition researchers in the world, if this was just some dude behind his mom's trailer who made some crap up, Big deal, who cares, right? But the problem is, is both the researcher and the institution are very illustrious and highly respected in the fields of nutrition.
Ken BerryHOST
3:45
And there are already hospitals and cafeterias that are starting to adopt this nutrient profiling system and use it to guide the food choices that they feed to patients and young children, and what's to stop the federal government from scrapping the MyPlate guidelines, which were crap from day one, and adopting the food compass.
Ken BerryHOST
4:08
Indeed, it looks like that's the ultimate goal of this, even though that hasn't happened yet.
Ken BerryHOST
4:13
Now, the Tufts School of Nutrition, and indeed Dr. Mozaffarian himself, are funded in large part by huge big food corporations.
Ken BerryHOST
2:55
Now, the American Diabetes Association does recognize a low carbohydrate diet as one of many different nutrition therapeutics that you might try.
Ken BerryHOST
3:10
They also love to recommend the food plate, the MyPlate from the FDA.
Ken BerryHOST
3:15
They love to recommend a plant-based diet.
Ken BerryHOST
3:17
All these are options.
Alyssa SmolenGUEST
41:00
We talked about vitamin B and B12 or whatever.
Alyssa SmolenGUEST
41:02
And then I said, they're like, do we have like a MyPlate version of this? And I said, unfortunately, we do not.
Alyssa SmolenGUEST
41:10
However, I said, if you look at your plate and it looks very colorful, you're probably getting everything in.
Alyssa SmolenGUEST
41:17
If I say you got at least two colors, you're probably getting in most of the micronutrients you need.
Simon WhistlerHOST
38:18
They also note that in cooking you should always use oils made of mostly healthy fats, like olive oil.
Simon WhistlerHOST
38:23
It's also interesting to note that the latest USDA MyPlate recommendation actually mostly mirrors the Harvard recommendation, with the major divergence being that they still have dairy as its own essential group, and even explicitly state the amount of food from the dairy group you need to eat, again emphasizing that you need to eat dairy to eat healthily.
Simon WhistlerHOST
38:43
In truth, what people actually need on a high level are protein, carbohydrates, and fats, and a bunch of different vitamins and minerals and the like.
Simon WhistlerHOST
38:50
These can be consumed from a variety of sources, the best of which are more or less outlined in both Harvard's plate and the USDA's, just with the USDA explicitly stating to get what you need here, you need to eat dairy products, which isn't true at all, and I'm sure the dairy industry had nothing to do with the decision to make sure that it's got its own group on the USDA's MyPlate.
Ken BerryHOST
17:57
You remember the criteria, the seven criteria? One of them was, one of those was nutritional completeness.
Ken BerryHOST
18:04
And basically, every one of these diets follows the food pyramid, or the MyPlate, from the federal government.
Ken BerryHOST
18:10
That's what it follows.
Ken BerryHOST
18:11
so in order for a diet to be complete and have nutritional completeness it must include whole grains lots of whole grains and lots of low-fat dairy it has to include that otherwise how it all the farmers who grow wheat and all the farmers who have dairy cattle how would they well it's really not even about the farmers I love the farmers what it's about is the huge corporations that farm the farmers that's what this is all about how would ADM and all these other huge corporations how would they keep their board of directors happy if we started saying hey stop eating whole wheat it's really not that great for you stop drinking skim milk it's really not that great for you i mean that could affect the national economy and regardless of whether it helped helped obesity and type 2 diabetes or not that's not the point the point is we want these huge corporations to be successful so we can be successful as a country if our life expectancy is going down and our rates of obesity and type 2 diabetes are skyrocketing so what that's irrelevant that's the price you pay for prosperity people so you need to listen to these experts and stop listening to people to doctors like Jason Fung and board certified nephrologist don't listen to him and don't listen to william davis a board certified cardiologist and don't listen to me a board certified family physician because we are not telling you what the expert panel said therefore what we're saying is dumb and you shouldn't listen to us okay now if you enjoyed this video please i beg you don't share this on facebook or twitter or instagram because you're just gonna turn other people on to the ketogenic diet and it's obviously the worst diet in the world so why would you want to do that and then if you really enjoyed this and you want to support me more personally and give me a buck or something definitely don't support me on patreon because if you do i'll just keep making lots of videos about the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting and all the positive effects it has on human beings and why would anybody want that because that's not what this expert panel said This is Dr. Berry.
Ken BerryHOST
20:14
They're just trying to make money off of a fad diet.
Ken BerryHOST
20:17
So when you see the federal government's MyPlate guidelines, that is also a fad diet.
Ken BerryHOST
20:24
It's not based on any research whatsoever.
Ken BerryHOST
20:26
It's basically a conglomeration of the opinions of the corporate farming businesses that are billion-dollar corporations, some privately held that we have, the public doesn't have any recourse against.
Ken BerryHOST
20:40
They just decided we want to sell lots of grains and we want to sell lots of low-fat dairy and we want to sell lots of this, that, and the other.
Ken BerryHOST
20:47
So that's what we're going to say that people should eat.
Ken BerryHOST
20:50
That's how the MyPlate guidelines were formed.
Ken BerryHOST
20:53
And if you don't believe that, I've got a chapter in my book, Lies My Doctor Told Me, about how the food pyramid was formed.
Ken BerryHOST
2:44
And the reason that's so important, we'll get into in a minute.
Ken BerryHOST
2:48
But first you need to know, regardless of where you live in the world, the USDA MyPlate guidelines is probably what your country is using as well.
Ken BerryHOST
3:01
Regardless of where you are, what indigenous plants and animals grow in your country, most countries copy and paste the USDA MyPlate food guidelines for their society as well.
Ken BerryHOST
3:16
I'm not sure why they do that, but they do.
Ken BerryHOST
3:19
And initially I was very excited about the Nutrition Coalition's goals and for their chances of success.
Ken BerryHOST
8:11
Not a single one of those 10 companies are ever gonna, are ever gonna say, "Hey, let's start selling a proper human diet," because their shareholders would sue them immediately and win.
Ken BerryHOST
8:20
And the CEO would be fired, and the board of directors w- would be replaced, and then the company would go back to selling profitable junk food.
Ken BerryHOST
8:31
Well, you might say, what about the USDA? The nutrition coalition's trying to change their My, MyPlate guidelines.
Nina TeicholzGUEST
2:38
This is the food pyramid.
Nina TeicholzGUEST
2:40
We now use an image called MyPlate, but this is the one that I think best expresses what our guidelines recommend, that big bottom slab of grains, breads, much smaller proportion for animal foods, and the teeny tiny amount of fat in the tip of the pyramid.
Nina TeicholzGUEST
2:56
Um, you know, even though our government doesn't call it a low-fat diet anymore, it is de facto low fat.
Nina TeicholzGUEST
3:03
And to look at our guidelines another way, you can see that it recommends six servings of grains per day, including, inexplicably, three servings of refined grains and up to 10% of calories as sugar.
