Pawprint Academy: Your Blueprint to Raising Better Dogs
Jun 23, 2026 · 43 min · 13 segments
Where your dog sleeps is one of the most debated topics in the dog world, but the real question is not whether your dog sleeps in a bed or a crate. It is what that arrangement teaches. In this…
Definitely not something that you can rely on 100%.
Oh, just because the study said this.
Mm-hmm.
It is what it is.
But what we're going to try to attack tonight is the concept of dogs sleeping in the bed with you from a leadership perspective.
Because it's not really whether the dog can or can't sleep in the bed or whether you can or can't sleep in the bed.
But it's more about what sleeping in the bed can create in your household.
Yeah.
So where your dog sleeps is not nearly as important as the rules and the consistency as well as the accountability that surrounds it.
And this is something that we talk about all the time when we talk about leadership and the, uh, other things that go into dog training, dog training overall is a constant, you know, uh, a constant conversation in the home about leadership and the sleeping arrangements.
Do not create leadership, but an unclear boundary can definitely challenge your leadership.
Yeah, 100%.
Because it creates an inconsistent expectation that can create confusion.
And any time that I have ever witnessed confusion in the home...
I have also witnessed behavioral problems.
Yeah, typically.
And that might not be an unresolvable behavioral problem, but it could just simply be your dog blowing you off, giving you the finger as it runs out the door.
It's like, nope, I'm done.
I'm out of here.
Bye.
There's a squirrel out there.
A lot of squirrels.
Gotta go.
Yeah.
