Business is a numbers game — but not the numbers most people think. Not followers, not a huge email list, not the one perfect post you're missing. When you're selling coaching, teaching, or any…
Stacey Brass RussellHostAll right, let's talk today about the fact that business is a numbers game.
Now I know that that might not sound like revelatory or shocking to you, but what I experience on a daily basis with my clients that I serve and support, whether it's in the Passion and Prosperous Academy or my one-on-one clients, or when I do my free events, anything that puts me in interaction with other human beings who are trying to have businesses and make money doing what they love.
I find it very interesting that I have to tell people over and over and over again about the fact that business is a numbers game.
And when I say a numbers game, I don't mean that you actually have to have a huge audience, right? Meaning like a numbers game, meaning you don't need like big numbers.
And you don't need to have a ton of clients to make really good money if you follow my my system, which is about recognizing that when you do human-centered coaching, teaching, you know, deep personal work with your clients and your students, even if it's a group program, right? But like you're delivering live coaching and teaching and supporting and you work one-on-one with people and what you're doing is work that requires a partnership, a relationship, right? That your clients are not just anonymous.
They're not just like buying something that you're not involved in, right? That's a different business model.
When you have the business model of the human-centered business model, right? You don't actually need to have a thousand clients to make really good money.
You only need as many clients as it takes buying the price of your offer to make the amount of money you want to make.
And the other interesting thing is that, you know, I have such a range of clients.
I have some clients that... are doing this and if they make $20,000 to $50,000, that's great for them because they're not looking for this business to fully support them and a family, right? And then I have other clients who really want and need to make six figures and over six figures, okay? But even to get to six figures, you don't need to have a thousand clients or even a hundred clients, right? If you are selling a higher ticket offer, which is what a true coaching coach or a real human-centered offer would be.
Because an offer that requires for you and your client to have a partnership, a relationship, for you to hold space for them, for you to actually be able to be so attuned to them and their desires and their challenges that you can really do the balance of pushing them out of their comfort zone, of helping them to like see their blind spots.
It is very hard to coach and teach and not feel like That all you're supposed to do is make sure that somebody feels good and never, ever challenge them or never actually make them do something hard, right? Because they don't like that sometimes.
And so it's very hard to be the coach or the teacher and really show up for someone, you in a way that's going to be the right balance of pushing and loving and listening to them and making sure that you're not pushing them in a direction that doesn't feel safe or aligned for them.
And so when we are doing that work with people, we're charging for it because it's a lot.
It's energetically so much to work with other humans, right? And so this kind of work, we sell in high ticket unless we're selling stuff where like we're not actually really involved and we don't want to be.
And that's a whole different business model, okay? So when you're in this business model and you're charging higher ticket, and I don't mean that everybody should be charging $5,000, $6,000, $10,000 the minute they come out of the gate, right? We build to what we ultimately want.
But even when we first start a coaching business, right, I teach my clients that your offer is ideally is going to start at a thousand and up, right? To do real true transformational work with people that requires time and energy and input and all the things I just said.
So the thing is, is that to get To have clients, right, you actually don't need a huge audience, but you need something.
You need more than the amount of people that you want to work with, okay? So let's just say, hypothetically, that you wanted to make $50,000, right? And your offer was $2,000, okay? Okay? You would need 25 clients to pay you $2,000 to make your $50,000, right? So now we're talking about 25 people saying yes and paying you money.
How many people would need to know about you for you to get that many clients? Not only 25.
