And then we can't forget the bubonic plague that ravaged Europe in the Middle Ages, or when syphilis killed one in four Europeans when it first hit, uh, Europe in the 1500s, when one in two Hawaiians were killed by measles in the 1700s, when Native Americans were dying from smallpox and other diseases that were imported by earlier explorers.
But friends, we're facing a new plague, and we have been for the last five years.
And as I was preparing for our s- time together today, it made me think about the last five years of our lives.
There have been massive disruption, upheaval, uncertainty, things to be scared to death of, things we were worried sick over, times where we were grieved beyond measure as friends and loved ones were becoming sick and ill, as our finances started to collapse because the cost of living life was skyrocketing.
There was turmoil in our public arena, in our political system in America, but this is also happening globally.
Is it more than previous plagues that have destroyed and killed thousands, millions? I think it's different.
We can now have something that impacts the entire globe simultaneously, which is what ended up happening, and we're living with the fallout and the consequences.
Many people are being treated with depression, and that's rising, and anxiety is gripping people's mind.
It's their whole body is tensed and, and fearful because what's gonna happen next? And the stress level, the stress that's coming at us from all sides.
So it, it made me start to think, "Lord, what do I need to do? What's my part?" And the first thing I had to think about was, what does the Bible say? It's pretty applicable.
