Today I want to talk about something that I think almost everyone who is trying to create change experiences.

Whether you're creating an outdoor classroom, changing your teaching practice, starting a garden, developing a new program, or honestly just trying something you haven't done before, which is something that that we all experience.

We talk about the beginning, the exciting idea, the moment when you think, we're gonna do this, yes! And then we talk about the result, the beautiful outdoor classroom, the thriving garden, the children who are deeply engaged, the teachers who can't imagine teaching any other way.

And sometimes it's where we convince ourselves that what we're doing isn't working.

So today I want to put two ideas together that I've been thinking a lot about.

And we need the permission to keep going when things don't unfold exactly the way we imagined.

Why is starting something new sometimes so difficult? I think one reason is that we're rarely comparing our beginning to someone else's beginning.

We are comparing our beginning to someone else's middle or even their finished product.
