Episode 155: Sometimes Evil Comes In Young Packages

It was March 19th, 2024.

So pretty recent.

Mm-hmm.

In Mississippi.

Yeah.

In Reagan County, 14-year-old Carly Craig was accused of killing her mother, Ashley Smiley.

The sheriff's office received a call on, well, it was about 5, they said like 5.07 p.m. about a shooting.

And when deputies arrived, they found Ashley dead from a gunshot wound.

Now, Ashley's husband, which is Carly's stepdad, his name is Heath Smiley, told authorities that when he arrived home, he found his wife dead.

She was shot in the face and Carly armed with a pistol.

And he said Carly shot him in the arm, but managed to take the gun from her.

And after Carly allegedly shot her stepdad, she ran away, but was captured close to the house.

And her bond was set at $1 million.

Wow.

I know, right? 14? Mm-hmm.

Nice.

And she pleaded not guilty.

No joke in Mississippi there.

Right, exactly.

So Carly turned down this plea agreement that was offered by the prosecutors that would have sent her to prison for 40 years.

But she was like, no deal.

That was a bad move on her end.

So there is so much more to learn about this story.

So I'm just going to jump into it.

So Carly Madison Gregg was born on April 23rd, 2009 to Ashley Smiley and Kevin Gregg.
