What if the biggest thing hurting your golf game isn’t your swing… it’s the golf you’re watching? This week on Off TRAQ, Charles and Roy explore why the modern PGA Tour may actually be teaching…
Well, our first question of the day we're going to dive into is, is watching the tour making you a worse golfer? You know, we've talked about this in a lot of different ways where golf is one of the only sports where we get to do some of the things that the professionals do.
The equipment, the courses, you know, and every once in a while you'll hit that like one amazing shot that keeps you addicted.
But the pro game and the way that amateurs play doesn't really overlap as much as it used to.
Right.
Meaning like the pros have gotten so good.
The equipment is so tuned that what they do is so far away from the average amateur that if we try to emulate them, we're only hurting ourselves.

And even the course length is a lot closer to the lengths that most amateurs play.
And if you're watching the PGA to try to mimic those golfers, then yeah, I absolutely think that is a really,
really
bad
idea.
Man, as I'm saying this, I'm like, I watch the PGA Tour and I feel when I see something, I'm like, oh, I can do that.
Not all the time, but
one out of 10 times, I can do that.
Yeah, 100%.
Well, so yeah, to answer your question simply, yes, I 100% believe people do that.
But I think the effect might actually be more subconscious, right? So not just like a, hey, can I do that? Yes.
I think a lot of it is like we see golfers taking cues because they think that the tour is the way that golf should be played, right? Yeah.
And I think the most telling is when you see somebody who's not a great golfer, and this is no disrespect, maybe not even a good golf putter, but they're going to take like a good 45 seconds to a minute because they're taking all of their practice swings and they do their waggle and then they line up the putt from every angle.
And yeah, you should look at the putt from not just down the line of the putt, but especially from the other side.
