Ahead of Labor Day, Haitian Businesses in New York City Feel the Impact of TPS Ending

The Haitian community don't come out to eat, so we're not doing as much sales that we used to.

Our revenue really dropped.

The expiration of temporary protected status is changing the rhythm in some Caribbean neighborhoods in New York City.

On today's show, we head to Flatbush, Brooklyn, to see how the removal of legal protections and work authorizations are impacting Haitians there.

But before we get into that, here's a few headlines we're following.

New York City's public school system is banning the use of artificial intelligence as a teaching tool for students below high school.

The guidance was released Wednesday.

It also adds that most students from preschool through second grade won't be allowed to use individual devices in classrooms at all.

Plus, the policy places time limits on laptops for students in third through eighth grades.

Students and parents have a few days to digest the new rules.

Classes start next week.

We're learning more about Pamela Cisnaros.

That's the woman killed by the NYPD after police say she stabbed two people in Times Square within 20 seconds of each other.

One of the victims died.

WNYC spoke to Cisnaros' family, and they say she had been struggling with mental health issues for decades.

New York City has a new plan for reducing racial inequality across the five boroughs.

The Mamdani administration is outlining eight major goals for tackling disparities in jobs, housing, schools, and other areas.

Sounds like a lot.

In fact, it is.

The mayor's plan is about 400 pages long.
