What exactly \*is* a design workshop? What's the difference between an effective meeting, a workshop, and an email? In this episode of New Layer, Jasmine and Tanner ruminate and discuss, as well as…
It's something that I think many of us will have to do at some point in our career.
I'm trying to think in my head, like, is there ever an instance where someone who's a designer would never have to host a workshop?
You might participate in, would like a non-designer, does your PM host a design workshop? Yes, sometimes.
When we say a design workshop, how is that different than any other type of workshop? Or maybe a better question, what is the difference between a design workshop and a meeting?
The first thing that comes to mind for me is that a workshop has a very clear expected outcome.
And the emphasis of the workshop is getting a group of people together, often cross-functionally, so not just designers, but also engineers, product managers, et cetera, to come together and try to brainstorm or ideate or collaborate in real time to move like something forward.
I think I'd, I'd index on the, um, in real time rather than the outcome, because I would say like meetings have outcomes, they should have outcomes.
Um, But the workshop is actually some place where you get together and you get work done.
