To understand why the roadmap looks the way it does, you have to understand why the gaming clips matter so much to the people building this thing.

A video game is one of the most demanding tasks you can hand a brain-computer interface, because it punishes you the moment you are imprecise or even slightly late.

So when the very first patient, Nolan Arbaugh, received his implant, the thing that told everybody this was real was not necessarily that he could nudge a cursor across the screen, but rather that what he wanted to do with the cursor, he could do almost immediately.
In this particular case, this is one of our participants.
We call him P1 because he was the first participant playing Civilization VI.
And he mentioned that the day after he got telepathy, he was playing Civilization for nine hours straight.

Think about the last time something pulled you in so completely that you looked up and half the day was gone.

And now picture the thing letting you do it being a coin-sized device reading the intention to move a hand that has not actually moved in years.

Nolan says, I believe I'm faster than a non-enhanced human, at controlling a computer at least.
