S4Ep2: The Team Lead Rollercoaster — Why We Almost Quit (And Didn't)

So let's get into, everyone looks at team leaders and they think like it looks all beautiful and so much fun and you're leading all these people.

But I want to hear about some of the hardest parts about running a team.

So who wants to start?

The people.

You.

All right, Rachel.

I mean,

what's the hardest part of life? People.

Yeah.

I just think, I mean, at least for me, it's interesting.

The other day I was in the kitchen talking to a friend and Jodi or Mindy came up in our conversation when Jodi and I were talking one day and we were talking about how just people don't really work.

They want to, they see what the team leads have.

Yep.

No, I'm going to get to what it was saying about you.

They see what we have and they're like, I want that, but they don't do what it takes.

And this was an example of, we were in a group message with some people and we were playing open houses and Mindy was the first person to respond on everything.

And I think what I've found is like successful team leads, like we're available.

The most successful people I know are the ones that show up the most.

And the people that are like, I'm busy, I'm busy, I'm busy.

It's like, well, what are you busy doing? And so it was like a compliment to Mindy we were talking about of like, of course, Mindy's the first one responding in this group message.

That's why she's the team lead.

And so I think it's just trying to find people that don't just look at you and go, I want what you have, but they're willing to do what you do.

And I think that's the hardest part for team leads.

It's

finding the people that have the grit to embrace the suck to get to where you're at.
