E169: The Spiritual Practice of Doing Your Best

It's a very holy phrase.

Doesn't matter what language you're speaking in.

Doesn't matter when you say it.

There's a thing called the best that you can.

There is nothing holier in this world than doing the best that you can.

Doesn't matter what you're doing.

Doesn't matter how long it takes.

And most importantly, It has nothing to do with what comes back.

If you're really doing the best that you can, that is by definition the best that you can.

That's all.

Here's a weight to lift.

The best that you can lift is 97 pounds.

How do you know? Because I keep trying to do the best that I can.

And 97 pounds is what gets lifted up.

But if it stays at 97 pounds, it doesn't matter.

Why? Because it's the best that I can.

That's a very holy phrase, the best that I can.

But what if everybody else can do 105, and I want to do 97, and so I give up.

You have to do the best that you can, don't you? If you don't do the best that you can, you're not living the best life, you're not living the holiest life.

You're not even living the most spiritual life.

So beautiful, the Bhagavad Gita is all about doing the best that you can.

without caring about the fruits of your action.

You're not doing it to get something.

You're doing it to give a gift to the universe of the best that you can, period.
