What's My Legacy?

Uh, this week, and hopefully I'll follow this, this week I went to a funeral.

And, uh, it- it's- it's- it was a lady that we've known for a while, and actually that my wife worked for.

And, uh [sighs] my title, I- I guess if I have to put a title to it, is, "What will be said of you when you die?" Mm-hmm.

And when we were there- Mm-hmm ...

it was a, just a different kind of service.

I've, I don't know how many services I've been to, how many funerals, but if I could count them, maybe 20, 30 throughout my life.

You know, the...

But this one was different.

I've never been to a service like this before.

I've never felt what I felt this week.

Mm-hmm.

And I was like, "Lord, why is it different?" Because this lady told my wife and, and, and my mother-in-law, and others that, "You know, when I die..." And she knew she was dying.

She was in hospice, and she knew she was dying.

And, and, and she's been talking about this for a year now or so.

And she's been talking, and she said, "You know, when I die, no one's gonna come to my funeral." Mm-hmm.

And, and my, my wife and my mother-in-law would tell her, "There's people that love you.

They're gonna show up." "No, they're not.

They don't show up right now when I'm alive.

Why are they gonna show up when I die?" Mm-hmm.

That was her thought.

And, and this week, she, she didn't have that many family members.

They all lived out of town.

And, uh, only one family member was able to attend.

And, and the rest were neighbors, people from church, people that knew her.
