Um, I do think it would be helpful to kind of, um, define a few of these things, because even I conflate these things-
So I would say that reflux and GERD can be used interchangeably because reflux is part of that G-E-R-D, gastro-
... esophageal reflux disease, which means that stomach contents, and we think of it most commonly as acid, but really it's stomach contents-
... or the stomach juice, is refluxing or moving back upward into the chest, uh, or the esophagus, or beyond.
And we can touch upon another term in a moment, but to stick with GERD and reflux, we can use those interchangeably.
Um, heartburn is a symptom of reflux, but one thing to also keep in mind is that heartburn is not only seen with reflux, so that's why we don't want to use those terms interchangeably.
But when someone presents with heartburn, most commonly we're going to think it is reflux related.
