RNZ chair’s hot seat, Opportunity’s backlash, political tax tussles

Right now, RNZ's looking for a new boss and chief editor for next year.

And at the halfway point of this one, a new chair took over this week as well.

That's Brent Impey, recently the chair of New Zealand Rugby, and before that, the long-serving chief executive at the commercial broadcasting company MediaWorks.

He now leads an RNZ board whose members were all appointed by the current coalition government... which wants changes.

On Media Watch this week, we ask him how he'll handle demands for more listeners, more output, more efficiency and greater public trust while the RNZ budget's being cut over the next two years.

we make this radio station back to being the number one station, which it was five or six years ago?

Before that, though, we take a look at how the media handled political posturing over tax policy via social media and A.I., and how one political party that intrigued the media last week copped a bit of a backlash in them this week.
