In this episode of *Daba Markets Talk*, we review another strong week for the BRVM as the major indexes closed higher and trading activity increased. We examine the market’s top-performing stocks, the…
Let us begin with the market indexes.
The BRVM composite, which tracks the overall performance of the regional stock market, rose 3.31% to close at 474.92 points, The BRVM 30 gained 4.09%, ending the week at 225 points.
The index rose 6.03% to close at 353.81 points.
What does this mean for investors? When several indexes rise together, it suggests that the market's momentum is broader than the performance of just one company.
However, investors still need to be selective.
Despite the strong index performance, 29 stocks fell during the week, while only 17 rose and one remained unchanged.
This means that a small group of large companies and high-performing stocks carried much of the market's advance.
A rising market does not mean that every stock is rising.
Trading activity also strengthened.
The number of shares traded increased 6.64% to 14,131.324 shares.
The total value of transactions climbed 39.79% to 11.48 billion CFA francs, compared with 8.21 billion CFA francs during the previous week.
Because the value of transactions grew much faster than the number of shares traded, investors were committing more money to the market, particularly to some of the BRVM's larger companies.
Sonatel Senegal followed with 980.9 million CFA francs, while Solibra Côte d'Ivoire recorded 895.2 million CFA francs in trades.
Ecobank Transnational Inc., also known as ETIT, remained the most actively traded stock by volume for the third consecutive week.
More than 13.24 million ETET shares changed hands.
