Are we allowed to be excited about what we saw today or do we just put this in like maybe the last thing we can be happy about before our asses get handed to us next weekend? I asked this question for two reasons.
One is Lucas and I were talking about it before this game in the mailbag a couple of days ago that.
If Mourinho was going to experiment with the lineup and maybe rotate before the games this week, it's going to be this one because it's the easiest game on the schedule and it's at home.
I mean, I didn't think we would experiment with Arda in the pivot, which kind of caught me by surprise pleasantly.
But then does this just return to the status quo midweek and against Barcelona where it's just kind of the same boring stuff like Fede Chuma in the double pivot, blah, blah, blah, etc., etc.? Are we allowed to be excited or do we just…
uh depends on depends on like uh what the lineup is in the classical because if if this is the exact lineup that uh starts in barcelona i think we are allowed to be excited but if it in barcelona if the lineup is that dumfries at right back and chuamini uh fed a double pivot no endric uh then i i don't think we optimize our team the best against this barcelona side i wouldn't even mind i know like we we have a lot to discuss about the sevilla game itself but i wouldn't even mind henrik's starting on the bench against barcelona and uh like more control in midfield uh and bernardo silva is starting as a pivot maybe arta guler on the right because are the kind of roms in place everywhere but if we go to Barcelona with the same lineup that started against Roma, then it's one of those classical that I'm not really overly excited or interested about.
And I don't need the exact same lineup against Barca, but I think we need to learn from some of the principles that have been working.
In the 58th minute, Sevilla started to press aggressively because they were trying to make up for the 2-0 deficit.
And this particular lineup that had Arda on the field and Housen on the field escaped pressure easily.
They would be begging for teams to press them because they knew they could easily walk through that lineup and just play their way out and take advantage of this space.
And this particular group of players, like with specifically Arda and Hausen, who brought really good composure to this game and verticality, and calmness of the back line, they weren't on the field for the majority of the Roma game.
And I, look, I don't need this exact same lineup against Barca, but I do need a lot of the elements that we saw today against Sevilla present again against Barca, because they're going to press you relentlessly and you can not, you cannot roll with a Fede-Chumay-Del Pivot in that game.
