A former well-known radio host Ruben Delmage shares the story behind his passion for aviation and why he decided to start this channel.Flying is more than just getting from one place to another — it's…
From the very first flight that I went up with my instructor, uh, flying to the general flying area out of Vanderbijlpark Airport and just tasting flight for the very first time and being in control of the aircraft and actually feel how to operate the aircraft.
I was one of those that did a lot of training and a lot of hours on the flight simulator beforehand.
If you're a young person maybe looking to get into aviation at some point, that is something I would highly recommend.
How insane is the latest simulator versions currently? So maybe get into that and just get a feel for what it's all about.
And the day that you get your break and actually fly, get into an aircraft, trust me, it'll play a huge role, as it has for me.
But let me tell you, from that very first flight and passing that very first subject, I'll get to the maths and the science now, but just passing the subjects and just getting it all done, and let me tell you, like any other aviator will tell you, that very first solo flight, yes, I cried like a baby.
Unbelievable moment, and I will never, ever, ever forget that moment and that landing.
From there on, did my solo flight here at Vanderbijlpark at Learn to Fly Air School here at Vanderbijlpark, based at Vanderbijlpark, and, uh, did my solo flight, um, started passing my subjects, and from there on, it just went on and on.
Did my navs, did my GF training, and from there on, I just completed my PPL, and what an unbelievable moment that was as well.
As you can see on the screen here, this w- this was, this was one unbelievable moment and, uh, a day that I will never, ever forget.
I didn't wanna stop, and, uh, I kept on going, and as we sit here today, I have, uh, up until here, I have completed my night rating recently, and I've completed about 145 hours in total flying hours, of which 85 is pilot in command hours.
Still got four to go after that, general radio and then instrument rating, and then we'll see how it goes from there.
